Mineral Resource Management for Miners
Who should attend?
This course is aimed at learner miners and miners who have the intention of progressing their mining careers towards a management position in the mining profession.
Objective of Course.
By the end of this course the candidate will understand the full workflow and responsibilities of all the incumbents in the Mineral Resource Management (MRM) department as well as gaining an understanding of the various disciplines basic processes, theory of discipline subjects and work methods.
Content of Course.
On completion of the course, the learner will be able to successfully demonstrate:
- Introduction to the MRM department
- Safety in MRM department
- Objective of MRM for the Miners course
- The workflow in the MRM department
- The theory of MRM subjects such as basic geology, survey, sampling and grade control
- The various departments responsibilities within the MRM department
- The MRM responsibility to all stakeholders on the mine

Mineral Resource Management for Shift Overseers
Who should attend?
This course is aimed at trainee shift overseers and shift overseers who have the intention of progressing their mining careers towards a senior management position in the mining profession.
Objective of Course.
By the end of this course the candidate will understand the full workflow and responsibilities of all the incumbents in the Mineral Resource Management (MRM) department as well as gaining an understanding of the various disciplines basic processes, theory of discipline subjects and work methods.
Content of Course.
On completion of the course, the learner will be able to successfully demonstrate:
- Introduction to the MRM department
- Safety in MRM department
- Objective of MRM for the Shift Overseers course
- The workflow in the MRM department
- The theory of MRM subjects such as basic geology, survey, sampling and grade control
- Understanding basic geology and strata control problems
- Measuring techniques and basic survey calculations
- Understanding the logic of sampling and estimation of ore bodies
- Clean mining practices in grade control
- The various departments responsibilities within the MRM department
- The MRM responsibility to all stakeholders on the mine
The MRM department is made up of the following various disciplines, Geology, Sampling (Evaluation), Survey, Planning and Grade Control.

Strata Control for Production
Who should attend?
With the spate of rock related incidents, the creation of this course was requested by mines for attendance by machine operators, drillers, miners and shift overseers.
The course is presented on site by Caddis as MQA and QCTO accredited training provider.
Qualified, experienced production Geologists and Rock Engineers present this course to Machine Operators, Miners and Shift Overseers.
Two days is spent on theory with a pre-and post-test. The third day is spent in the section doing practical training and workplace assessment.
Course content.
The Strata Control for Production course specialize on the practical identification of geological structures, understanding their 3D orientation and mapping thereof.
Support and treatment of structures are covered as well as company-specific standards on negotiating geological structures and support. Additional specific topics that a mine wishes to be included can be accommodated.
Plan reading and interpretation and the drawing of sections through the workplace plan are covered.
Requirements.
Candidates will be in a training venue for three days for uninterrupted training with a theory assessment. This will be followed by two days’ workplace practical training and an individual assessment in a site, which is deemed representative of the hazardous conditions encountered on the mine as identified by Rock Engineering and Geology staff from the mine.
